Weta Marine Trimarans built in New Zealand and
Sailing in Duck (it's a small world)!
After learning about the Weta from a friend in New
Zealand, several hundred e-mails, an education in US
Customs and a visit from Roger, the owner of Weta
Marine. Nor'Banks took a chance and brought the first
container into the US last Summer.
Weta is an insect native to New Zealand which is
somewhat like a cricket or a cockroach. The Weta
Trimaran has very few if any bugs in the way that it
sails. This boat is awesome! It is fast upwind like a
skiff or laser, tacks on a dime, screams off the wind
with the roller furling reacher and carbon reacher pole
all while sitting in the boat or hiking on the tramps.
The boat is a breeze to rig with a carbon mast and
beams, self draining cockpit, simple controls, an
aluminum beach dolly for easy launching and storage and
a padded foil bag and boat cover all included in the
price of the boat.
Nor'Banks is now awaiting our 3rd container and on
the verge of ordering a 4th. We have boats sailing in
Virginia, Florida, Michigan and North Carolina. Weta is
exhibiting at the Miami Boat Show from February 14-18
and is doing a demo day and expose' with Sailing Anarchy
on February 23rd.
