In 1979, when the Britt family decided visitors needed something to do in Duck, they opened Nor’Banks Sailing with just a few sailing skiffs and a couple canoes. The ’80s saw the introduction of kayaks and Hobie Cats and the ’90s brought Jet Skis & Parasailing. Since then Nor’Banks has continued to add new activities and equipment every season, including Tubing, Wakeboarding, Waterskiing, Pontoon Boats and SUP rentals and clinics.
In 2017, then owner Jon Britt, son of founders Barbara and Joe, had his sights on the next big project–creating a new facility for Nor’Banks, complete with a restaurant on site. With this project in the works, Jon handed the Nor’Banks keys over to Dan McIsaac. A lifelong waterman who started in the industry at 12 years old, Dan had worked at Nor’Banks in various capacities including manager, sailing instructor, watersports captain and parasail operator since 2004.
In 2018, Nor’Banks‘ new facility opened its doors, complete with a 2,000-square-foot surf shop and reservation center. Joining forces with John and Jennifer Minnich, of the popular Trio Restaurant and Market in Kitty Hawk, the team debuted The Village Table and Tavern upstairs in a sun-dappled, open space with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Sound. Since then, GM Kenan Watkins and the awesome staff at The Village have become an extension of the Nor’Banks family. If you haven’t dined with them, it’s a must for your next trip!
While Nor’Banks has changed quite a bit over the years, we maintain our dedication to offering great customer service, well-maintained equipment, and a safe environment for your friends and family. If you’re one of the many guests who visit us every year, we thank you for helping Nor’Banks grow into the success that it’s become while preserving the special place it’s always been. We couldn’t have done it without you. If this is your first visit, welcome! We hope you make Nor’Banks part of your vacation for years to come.
See you on the water!
