Welcome to Nor’Banks Sailing & Watersports
At Nor’Banks, we believe a day on the water should feel effortless, exciting, and unforgettable. What began in 1979 as a small sailing operation on the quiet shores of Duck has grown into one of the most trusted and beloved watersports destinations on the Outer Banks. More than 40 years later, we’re still family-run, still passionate about what we do, and still dedicated to helping you make your best vacation memories.
A Legacy of Adventure on the Outer Banks
When the Britt family first opened Nor’Banks in the late ’70s, watersports on the Northern Outer Banks were almost unheard of. With a handful of skiffs and canoes, they sparked something new—an adventure culture that has continued to grow each decade.
The ’80s brought Hobie Cats and kayaks.
The ’90s introduced Jet Skis, parasailing, and more equipment than anyone thought would ever fit on the beach.
And each year since, Nor’Banks has pushed forward with new activities, better gear, and a commitment to safety and service that set the bar for the entire region.
Growing With Purpose
In 2017, long-time Nor’Banks team member Dan McIsaac took the helm. Dan started in the industry at 12 years old, working every job from dockhand to sailing instructor to parasail captain. After more than a decade on the Nor’Banks crew, he stepped into ownership with one goal: elevate the Nor’Banks experience while preserving the soul of the business.
That vision led to the construction of a brand-new 2,000 sq. ft. waterfront facility in 2018—home to our surf shop, reservations center, and the award-winning Village Table & Tavern. Together, we’ve created a space that feels like the true heart of Duck: welcoming, family-friendly, and full of energy.
